A Stirling family are appealing for help to raise £45,000 to fly a seriously ill Cowie man back home from Turkey.

Bob Carrick – described as “one of life’s good guys” – fell unwell while abroad on Saturday, September 21.

He was operated on in a Turkish hospital but went on to suffer further complications.

Bob’s family have been forced to pay out a whopping £26,000 while they wrangle with insurers.

Desperate to bring him home, their only option is to fund a private medical flight for the 50-year-old – at an eye-watering cost of £45,000.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Bob’s sister-in-law, Christine Young, posted on an online donation page: “This is the last thing we as a family wanted to do.

“Many people know Bob is a proud man and would never ask but we need your help.

“Bob is currently in a hospital in Turkey, he was admitted on September 21 with internal bleeding, he had an operation for this, he has since been readmitted on September 28 and [his wife] Claire has been told he is in heart failure.

“They to date have paid over £26,000 for hospital fees whilst the insurance drags their heels and have no more money to spare. Our only option now is to get our own medical-assisted flight home which has been quoted at just over £45,000.

“I know it’s a lot to ask, and I wouldn’t if it wasn’t our only choice.

“If you can’t donate please feel free to offer advice or share.”

Posting on Facebook, Christine added: “I know some people reading or donating won’t know Bob personally or even at all but just know that he’s so loved by all his family and friends and we just want him home.

“Bob is one of life’s good guys, he’s the person you can turn to if you need help. He loves a carry-on. He works seven days a week and barely takes any time off so he can provide for his family.

“We will do everything in our power to help him because he would do the same for anyone of us.”

At the time of publication, the fundraiser had pulled in more than £6,000.
