Alan Maybury believes a change in approach helped his side over the line in Stranraer.
The Binos have won three out of four away on the road, with the only blemish coming courtesy of a last-gasp Rory McAllister winner in Peterhead a fortnight ago after Erik Sula’s red card.
The big Slovak redeemed himself on his return at Stair Park, poking home the opener before Adam Brown sealed the points with a driven free kick.
A switch in set-up saw Maybury move to just a single striker, with Dale Carrick operating on his own up front.
It worked a treat to secure an important win which lifted the Binos to victory after three straight defeats in league and cup action. Maybury hailed the switch and said his side’s away fortunes were down to a comfort in playing in a certain style which has been as easily reflected in front of the Forthbank faithful.
He said: “It was a good away performance. We were more pragmatic and solid in our selection – with the tweak of the extra player in midfield.
“We had to battle and scrap in the first 20 minutes but slowly got the upper hand and the goal was a fair reflection of the game.
“They came out with a little fight as we expected at the start of the second half, but we managed that and had a number of chances to extend the lead before the goal sealed it at the end.
“We have been a little better away from home this season because we can sit and pick our moments and maybe we’re not so good at home yet where we have to make the running.
“That’s something we’re going to work on at training this week because there has been some good stuff and it’s all about trying to find that consistency of our performances, but there is a little bit of sticking fingers in the dam with players being out.”
A new face came in the form of former Rangers youngster James Graham, who appeared as a trialist for the final half hour.
With the loan window shutting overnight, Maybury was hard at work trying to plug the final spots in his squad – and hinted Graham might be set for a further appearance under the trialist rules as they attempt to thrash out a deal with the free agent winger.
“James has been in training with us for a wee while and came back to us after looking at a few other opportunities”, Maybury added.
“There has been constant contact and I’ll need to sit down with the board and look at that one.
“James gives us something a bit different in terms of pace in the forward areas and the rules of playing trialist gives us the opportunity to look at things for a few games.”
Meanwhile, the Binos have also found out their opponents for their Scottish Cup bow this season.
They will host Bo’ness Athletic from the East of Scotland First Division in the second round at Forthbank, with the game set to be played on the weekend of October 26.
