Lyon have eased to victory without even conceding a goal in their last two visits to Ibrox but will it be third time lucky for Rangers?

Philippe Clement welcomes the French cracks, who he came up against during his time as Monaco boss in Ligue 1, for the second Europa League matchday.

The Light Blues are marginal favourites and that’s despite a huge gulf in the value of the respective squads. Lyon aren’t in the best place domestically with some stuttering form and Rangers looking to continue their perfect run since losing to Celtic in the first Old Firm derby of the season. Can they make it five in a row and follow up their stunning win in Malmo? The Record Sport team has their say.

Rangers looked leggy after being asked to drag themselves out of their bed to face Hibs just 57 hours after their Malmo moment. But they should be freshened and ready to go against a Lyon side who have underwhelmed this season. The return of Mohamed Diomande will be key but if Philippe Clement can call on the Ivorian, his team might just have enough to edge it.

Rangers will have to bring their A game to avoid defeat against the French but Ibrox under the lights on Thursday nights can be quite a thing. Philippe Clement got his tactics spot on in Malmo last week and his players delivered them to the letter. A repeat performance and another Europa League point could be enough to keep the momentum building.

Scottish football needs a bit of a lift in Europe but it might be too big of an ask for Philippe Clement’s men to provide the victory that would give our game that but, despite a below par display against Hibs, they can pick up a point against the French side who aren’t the force they were.

Rangers were outstanding against Malmo and, although the form dipped subsequently against Hibs, they have a habit of rising to the occasion at Ibrox. Lyon are top-class, but Clement’s team can dig in and nab a point.

The Ligue 1 side pose a far bigger test than Malmo did last week but Rangers have shown time and again that they thrive off the Euro buzz on a Thursday evening.

There’s a spirit about Philippe Clement’s side right now and with a packed Ibrox at their back they can produce another big display. Maybe not enough for a win. But a draw would be another step in the right direction.

It’s a battle of two sides showing signs of getting it together after difficult starts to the season. But Philippe Clement’s team look a bit further along in their road to recovery, and with Ibrox packed out for a European night again, I’ll go for a narrow home win.
