TalkSPORT loudmouth Jason Cundy accused Celtic of “embarrassing Scottish and British football” after their Champions League humiliation at the hands of Borussia Dortmund in Germany.
The former Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur defender joined fellow ex star Jamie O’Hara on their late night radio show to discuss the 7-1 thrashing of the Hoops at the Bundesliga side’s intimidating Signal Iduna Park.
Cundy said he is BORED with the annual dissection of Celtic’s poor displays in Europe and added the only saving grace is that there is no Europa League safety net for Champions League dropouts in the new format, meaning they can’t be defeated in UEFA’s second tier competition.
The Englishman is renowned for aiming digs at Scottish football, including the national team during Euro 2024, but Celtic have been a regular target of his and said: “I’m bored. Every single Champions League campaign around this time Celtic get it in the neck, mate. They’re embarrassing Scottish and British football. Win the league, celebrate, get pumped… win the league, celebrate, get pumped… win the league, celebrate, get pumped.”
But referencing their scintillating start in the Champions League when they hammered Slovan Bratislava 5-1 at Parkhead, sidekick O’hara said: “They won the first game.” But Cundy countered: “Against the lowest ranked side.”
O’Hara said: “I know. We have this conversation every time. They’re garbage. It’s not their fault. They can’t compete. We end up going round in circles every year. They’re a big club in Scotland but they don’t have the facilities against the top players.”
Cundy said: “7-1. That’s a whooping.” O’Hara added: “Yeah, they took a proper whooping but Dortmund can do that to you. It’s too easy to have a go at Celtic.
Cundy agreed: “Yeah, I feel a bit bad.” O’Hara said: “Celtic fans are annoyed but they must understand they’re just not at the level.”
