BLACKSBURG, Va. (WDBJ) – From beer to boiled water, a hometown brewery is using its equipment to help people affected by Hurricane Helene.

Empty tanks normally used to ferment beer at Bull and Bones Brewhaus in Blacksburg are now being used to boil clean, safe and free water.

With Montgomery County under a boil water notice that’s expected to last several days, Bull and Bones general manager Marc Becker was worried about how the business would operate.

“It was a bit frantic for us, thinking all the restaurants are going to be competing to try and fight for all the water and sodas and everything that people would need,” said Becker.

Then, one of his employees brewed up an idea using the fermenters to not only provide clean boiled water for the restaurant, but the entire community.

Becker says it’s the least they could do to help people in the New River Valley.

”We got two 300-gallon tanks that are filled, so once the first one goes down, then we have the second one and we’ll keep doing that as long as this notice is there,” said Becker.

Anyone needing boiled water can bring their own containers and the restaurant workers will help fill them.

Bull and Bones will also be delivering food to North Carolina in a few weeks and anyone who would like to help can reach out to them.
