Former Celtic captain Scott Brown has branded former Rangers sparring partner Alfredo Morelos “stupid” as he revisited their feud.

The Parkhead legend and the former Light Blues striker were involved in several tussles throughout the years as the Glasgow rivals jousted for Scottish Premiership supremacy – with Brown continuing his wind-up merchant tactics against the Light Blues during his brief stint at Aberdeen to round off his playing career.

Brown is now in the dugout with Ayr United but couldn’t resist a jab at his old Rangers rival, insisting that the Rangers man kept being taken in by the atmosphere on derby day. Speaking to Celtic hero Frank McAvennie on the ‘Let Me Be Frank‘ podcast, Brown was asked about some of his clashes with Rangers stars throughout the years – including El Hadji Diouf and Morelos.

Asked about his infamous ‘Broonie” celebration in the face of Diouf, Brown said: ‘That is probably the only booking I got that I didn’t deserve. We had a go (at each other) right throughout that full season, but it was actually quite good banter. I liked somebody that gave me something back.”

He then moved onto the Colombian frontman: “It was the same with Morelos as well, but he fell for it that much…he was stupid to be fair. I was just sitting (does fishing rod motion) there saying ‘thank you big man’; the amount of times I would get him sent off – it was just stupidity from him.”

Brown reckons that Morelos repeatedly got caught up in the derby atmosphere – and gave him the advantage in their rivalry: “The game gets you, the atmosphere, it does get you. It does get everybody because it’s brilliant but some people fall into that.”

He then conceded he has got carried away in the same way – when he clashed with Kyle Lafferty back in 2010: “To be fair, I fell into it as well when I tried to headbutt Kyle Lafferty. So, we all make mistakes!”
