Shoppers can grab themselves a bargain and help an inspiring Wishaw child at an indoor market held later this month.

Little Thea Steele was born with an incredibly rare form of epilepsy that caused her to suffer hundreds of seizures each day.

At just one year old, Thea underwent a life-changing six hour surgery called a Hemispherectomy, which involves removing one half of the brain to help reduce severe seizures.

Now aged three, Thea is undergoing private physiotherapy to help lead as close to a normal life as possible.

However, with sessions costing £100 each, organisers at the Too Good to Throw Market have decided to have Thea as their chosen charity of the month when the market returns to Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility on October 12.

Too Good to Throw organiser Leeann Gillespie said: “What Thea has gone through in her short life, some people would never go through in a lifetime and yet all she does is smile!

“Now, two years on, Thea is showing remarkable determination as she learns to walk.

“Her progress is incredible, she amazes us every day, but it means Thea requires up to three intense physiotherapy sessions a week, costing £100 per session.

“These private sessions have allowed Thea to reach milestones we once thought were out of reach, but she will need ongoing physio to keep improving her mobility and quality of life.”

At the market itself, there will be 100 stalls, packed with pre-loved, new and nearly new bargains, plus lots of local businesses who will be there on the day.

Stalls will have a whole host of items including designer clothing, accessories, clothes for all the family, sporting memorabilia, toys, games, footwear, bric-a-brac, baby items, baby clothing, household goods, jewellery, wax melts and much more.

Leeann added: “This market is a brilliant way for families or people who may be struggling, to pick-up clothes, shoes and toys for a fantastic low price.

“Every penny raised from the charity collection will go directly to helping make Thea’s life better.

“It you can spare some change on the day, it would truly be appreciated to help pay for the treatment she so desperately needs.”

The market is open to the public from 11am to 2pm. Entry fee is £1.50 per adult and under-16s are free. However, kids must be accompanied by an adult.
