AUSTIN, Texas — The Tesla Cybertruck has been recalled again.
For the fifth time since the vehicle went on sale in late 2023, Austin-based Tesla is recalling more than 27,000 Cybertrucks over an issue with the rearview camera.
Tesla said the camera’s image may not activate immediately after shifting into reverse. Tesla said it fixed the issue with a free software upgrade and that letters notifying owners will be mailed on Nov. 25.
Tesla warned the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that the Cybertruck’s display can stay blank for up to 8 seconds after a driver shifts into reverse. In the U.S., those screens are required to activate within 2 seconds of shifting into reverse.
This time, the recall targets Cybertrucks manufactured between Nov. 13, 2023, and Sept. 14, 2024. So far, the company is not aware of any crashes, injuries or fatalities related to the recall.
Other Cybertruck recalls
Less than two months after the Cybertruck was released, a recall was issued in January 2024 over warning lights with a small font size that could make critical safety information hard to read, increasing the risk of a crash.
In April, Tesla issued its second recall after learning the Cybertruck’s accelerator pedal can get stuck and trapped.
Two months later, the Cybertruck was recalled because its large front windshield wiper could fail. That same day, another recall was issued over loose trim that can detach from the vehicle and create road hazards.
