Motorists using the A76 in Dumfriesshire are being warned to watch out for a double helping of roadworks and diversions coming up mid month.

As part of an ash dieback action plan, Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is undertaking essential woodland maintenance on the A76 at Enterkinfoot, between Auchensell and Eilock Wood, from Friday, October 18, until Monday, October 28, which also includes two full weekend closures.

They will be between 7pm on the Friday and 6am on Monday, October 21, and then between 7pm on Friday, October 25 and 6am on Monday, October 28.

The maintenance work aims to remove hazardous trees in close proximity to the trunk road, as well as increasing the resilience of the landscape in the face of pests, diseases, and climate change.

For the diversions, northbound traffic will be directed to leave the A76 onto C133N Holestane Road toward Drumlanrig Castle. Traffic will then turn left on to the A702 north of Carronbridge and continue north on the A702 to the Abington services roundabouts.

Traffic will continue to the A70 Millbank, turn left on to A70 Ayr Road and continue on the A70 to Cumnock to re-join the A76 at Dettingen Roundabout. Southbound traffic will take the exit at Dettingen Roundabout to the A70 through Cumnock to the B7078 and continue to Abington services. Traffic will then be directed to take the A702 to Carronbridge where it will re-join the A76.

There will also be an essential bridge expansion joint replacement on the A76 at Mennock from Monday, October 28, until Saturday, November 2, between 8pm and 6am each night. Overnight temporary traffic lights will be in place.

Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout both sets of works which are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if conditions are not favourable.
