iPhone users are being advised to download Apple’s latest software update as soon as possible.

The tech giant has released iOS 18.0.1, which addresses a number of bugs and patches security vulnerabilities on devices.

“This update provides important bug fixes and security updates for your iPhone,” Apple said.

One of the bugs fixed in the update affected audio messages in the Messages app, where a device could capture a few seconds of audio before the microphone indicator was activated. Another bug, confirmed by Apple, potentially allowed a user’s saved passwords to be read aloud by the VoiceOver function.

The update also fixes issues with the touch screen on iPhone 16 models, camera problems, messaging glitches, and performance issues, reports the Mirror.

New features of Apple’s 18.0. 1 update

Key features of the iOS 18.0. 1 update include:

  • Fixing an issue where the touch screen may be temporarily unresponsive on iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro models.
  • Resolving a problem where the camera may freeze when recording macro mode video on the Ultra Wide camera in 4K with HDR turned off on iPhone 16 Pro models.
  • Addressing an issue where Messages may unexpectedly quit when replying to a message with a shared Apple Watch face.
  • Fixing a performance issue caused by a memory allocation problem on some iPhone models.

To ensure your device is free from these issues, go to the Settings menu, tap General, and then Software Update. You should be able to see the iOS 18.0. 1 update, which can be installed straight away or set to download overnight.

The update is roughly 500MB, so ensure you have sufficient data if you’re planning to download it while out and about – otherwise, it might be wise to wait until you’re connected to broadband.
