Fans of Community remain keen on the show fulfilling its legendary mantra of “six seasons and a movie”, even though the curtains closed on the original series back in 2015.

Shirley Bennett star Yvette Nicole Brown has spilled the beans that a silver screen outing is still very much in the cards, in spite of encountering some snags along the way.

Brown dished the dirt in a chinwag with The Wrap, letting slip that the film “is going to happen”, but added that the screenplay is in the midst of a revamp. This piece of news lands amid whispers of postponements after last years buzz around the movie’s looming arrival.

Brown revealed: “I think it’s being reworked, but we all have read an entire, full script. So a script exists.

“I heard that we have the big credit in LA that gives you money to make the film. So we’re definitely going to be doing it in LA.”

Jeff Winger actor Joel McHale previously took responsibility for the movie’s delay, stepping in to tell GQ that fans “can fully blame my schedule” after Donald Glover’s busy schedule was initially thought to be the reason production was being held up.

Addressing her own casting in Community: The Movie, Brown went on to explain: “For a minute, I wasn’t confirmed, so they have to now change some things, because I am confirmed, and they can now change some things for Shirley’s character as well.

“So it’s going to be really, it’s going to be a good time,” she added. “It’s just now trying to get all these puzzle pieces together of everybody’s schedule.

“We were scheduled to do it, and then the strike happened. And now it’s like trying to figure out when is so-and-so done with their show?

“When is so-and-so done with their movie? When is so-and-so off tour?

“It’s all of those things that we’re trying to now get together, but it’s going to happen. We are going to do the movie, and we’re all on board to do it.”

Community, which ran between 2009 and 2015, aired for five seasons on NBC, while an additional sixth season was streamed on Yahoo! Screen.

Series creator Dan Harmon has reportedly teamed up with former show writer Andrew Guest to pen the long-awaited movie.

The screenwriter has promised fans that the script is “really funny, irreverent and silly”.

Alongside Brown and McHale, other returning cast members include Alison Brie as Annie Eddison, Gillian Jacobs as Britta Perry, Danny Pudy as Abed Nadir, Donald Glover as Troy Barnes, Ken Jeong as Ben Chang and Jim Rash as Dean Pelton.

Community is available to stream now on Amazon Prime Video.
