Jimmy Thelin has told those tipping Aberdeen as title contenders: “We’ve won nothing yet.”
The Dons boss is proud his team has the last remaining 100 per cent record of all Europe’s major leagues. But Thelin is adamant it will mean nothing if they don’t extend it against Hearts at a sold-out Pittodrie on Sunday. The likes of Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has talked up the Dons as title challengers but the Swede is warning against getting carried away when we are only just into October. He said: “I can understand the discussion but how many games do we have left in the league now?
“So you see there are a lot of points left. “It is really early and we are not focusing on that. We aren’t focusing on that. We can only focus on being better and trying to play the games and now what is happening in May. It is so far away.”
Thelin knows there is a real hunger within his squad. That competition for places and desire to improve is a real driving force. He said: “That is football. “It is all the players and staff you have to keep this hunger to always improve and evolve to do better things.
“You can never think we know everything and we are so good. “We need to keep improving. “The trick is to keep improving and to get better all the time. That isn’t so easy.
“There are a lot of things at a football club and an opponent can change parts. So far so good. Everybody the way they train, they are so prepared for training sessions.
“How they prepare before and after and how do they work in the sessions? How good are the meetings? There is a big hunger within the squad and that is what we need to make better and better performances.
“Sometimes the opponent gets better and then you need to find a way to win games like at Dundee. As long as the team spirit is there, there is scope to grow.”
