There’s a lesser-known Spanish retreat offering cheap drinks where Brits can bypass Spain’s restrictions on all-inclusive alcohol deals.

The rules limit Brits abroad to just six alcoholic beverages per day on certain Spanish islands. The rules affect all-inclusive hotels in places like Magaluf, Playa de Palma, El Arenal in Majorca, and San Antonio in Ibiza. The regulations, initially set in 2020, have been intensified in 2024 with additional measures such as restricted late-night alcohol sales in shops and increased control over boat parties.

But there is an alternative for those seeking an unlimited experience, located just three hours away from traditional hotspots like Benidorm. TikTok user @cheapholidayexpert has revealed the location – Tarragona in Spain, where £3 sparkling wine is standard.

The holiday expert toured the town in a recent video, and it appears to be an excellent spot for affordable drinks. Some local pubs even offer deals where a glass of Cava costs just £1.60, a major saving for those hoping to fill their holiday with cheap booze.

The TikToker was pleasantly surprised when their first stop offered glasses of sparkling wine at a mere £2.94, serving up a big measure for a small price. High-end venues in the city’s culinary and cultural district were also pouring bargains, with prices reaching just £3.36 a glass on the pricier side.

Bargain bottles of Cava were spotted for an enticing £9.85, equating to approximately £1.65 per glass if split among mates. The solo social media traveller chose to skip the full bottle, but just over the road, another bar served “very full” glasses of Cava at a mere £2.93.

The most budget-friendly glass was discovered last, with a £2.10 Cava. “I’ll be honest it has not been difficult to find cheap Cava here in Costa Dorada,” she admitted. With Spain imposing limits on alcohol at all-inclusive resorts, some Brits are rethinking their holiday plans, doubting the value of such packages if they can’t drink to their heart’s content.

Cheap drinks are tricky to pin down in parts of Spain with the announcement of a limit to the number of alcoholic beverages on offer at all-inclusive resorts. Some Brits have since sworn off the island holiday packages and questioned whether it is truly an all-inclusive deal if they cannot have as much of a drink as they like.

Keep in mind that it’s important to drink responsibly. Men and women are advised not to drink more than 14 units a week on a regular basis. If you drink less than this, it’s considered ‘low risk’, but there are no completely safe drinking levels.
