Dundee United should be “realistically” pushing for the top six as they gear up to battle St Mirren this weekend.

That is the view of Dundee United supporter Martin Low, 30, as he cheers on his side to topple the Buddies at the SMiSA Stadium.

Speaking to the Paisley Daily Express, Martin outlined that, although it has been a good start for United – one loss in their opening six league games – more draws should have been wins as he reckons fans are still divided when it comes to assessing former St Mirren player and manager Jim Goodwin.

How does it feel to be back in the top flight and what are your expectations?

“It’s great being back in the top flight after a long season in the championship. Expectations are just to stay up this season but realistically we should be pushing for a top-six finish and a decent cup run.”

How do you see Jim Goodwin as a Dundee United manager?

“I think the opinion of the manager is very divided amongst the fans. Some appreciate us being hard to break down but others would like us to be a bit more attacking in the way we set up and go for a second goal rather than hold the one-goal lead for example.”

United have a good record against St Mirren. Is there any reason why they can’t keep this up?

“I think it will be a tough game but I don’t see any reason why United can’t come out with a win if they play well.”

Dundee United have started the season well so what do you make of it?

“I think we’ve had a decent start although it would have been nice to have turned a few of those draws into wins. Only losing one game in the first six, though, is always a good start.”

Sitting above St Mirren in the league currently, do you see the two teams as direct rivals for the top six this season?

“Yes, absolutely. St Mirren had a great season last season and will want to do well again and push for Europe. United should be aiming for the top six as well and I can see both of them playing again after the split.”
