The last few weeks have been incredibly rainy – with the wet weather making it difficult for us to hang our clothes out on washing lines.

And to make things even trickier, Scots could be treated to an early bout of winter for the second time this autumn, as parts of the country is set to be hit with snow and freezing temperatures next week.

To help people out, cleaning fanatic Lindsay, known as @dazlincleaning on Instagram, has shared her top tip for indoor drying after saying she was ‘blown away’ by the hack.

Lindsay shared a reel with her 100,000 followers, which showed her trying to fit a pair of jeans on an airer. She was heard saying in the clip: “Are you struggling to fit everything on your airer, or are you jeans not drying properly? I have the best tip.”

She added: “Fold your jeans in half and feed the legs from underneath. Fold them over the bars on either side. You will fit a lot more on your airer and everything will dry perfect.”

Following up in the caption, she said: “INDOOR DRYING TIP. I first saw @beckiesbitofsparkle show this and I was blown away! What an incredible tip and thanks for showing this Beck! I won’t look back now.”

The post garnered plenty of likes – and people rushed to the comments section to share their thoughts. One person exclaimed: “Smashed it. Makes such a difference doesn’t it.”

While another added: “I honestly thought everyone did this. My Nan taught me how to hang clothes on an airer when I used to stay there over the summer.” And a third joked: “This is genius, or should that be jeanius – thanks for sharing.”

How to dry clothes indoors

Drying clothes indoors can be a convenient alternative to outdoor drying or using a dryer, especially in bad weather. Here are some effective methods and tips:

  1. Use a Drying Rack: Invest in a foldable drying rack. Place your clothes on the rack, ensuring there’s enough space between items for air circulation.

  2. Hang Clothes on a Rod or Shower Rail: If you don’t have a drying rack, you can use a shower rod, a tension rod in a doorway, or a garment rack. Use hangers for shirts and blouses to prevent creases.

  3. Utilise a Clothesline: String a clothesline across a room where you have space. This could be in a laundry room, garage, or basement.

  4. Lay Flat to Dry: For delicate items that might stretch if hung, lay them flat on a clean, dry towel placed on a flat surface. You can flip the items periodically for even drying.

  5. Use the Radiator or Heating Vents: Place your drying rack near a radiator or heating vent, ensuring it’s safe and not blocking airflow.

  6. Dehumidifier: Using a dehumidifier in the room where you’re drying clothes can speed up the drying process by reducing humidity levels in the air.
