Evan Ferguson has named his Celtic hero and revealed he had trials at Parkhead as a youngster.
The Brighton and Republic of Ireland international is tipped to be the next big thing south of the border with a host of big name clubs already credited with an interest in the hitman. Had things worked out differently as a kid he could well have been turning out in the green and white hoops after confirming to the guys from the Open Goal podcastthat he did spend time with the club. Asked by Paul Slane – once of Celtic – if they had ever made an offer, he said: “Nah I don’t think so. I went on a few trials when I was younger.” Also asked his Hoops hero, he added: “Tough question, tough question. I don’t know. At the minute I am going to say Liam Scales.”
On the topic of highly-rated youngsters, two on the books at Celtic are making a name for themselves AWAY from the club and proved to be the difference makers with Ben Summers and Matthew Anderson both on target for Admira Wacker in their 2-0 win over Stripfing. They currently sit in top spot in Austria’s second tier in what is proving a vital experience for both players.
Elsewhere, Kacper Lopata knows Ross County are in for a serious test on Sunday despite Celtic’s Champions League hammering by Borussia Dortmund in Germany. Brendan Rodgers and his troops went into the clash full of confidence and on a big high after a 100 per cent record domestically and opening day win at Europe’s top table. But it turned into a night to forget on the road.
The Staggies man tuned into the game midweek and knows the champions will be eager to bounce back and go into the international break on a high. He knows all his team-mates will need to be at the top of their game to get a result.
He said: “I’m excited. I watched the game against Dortmund but they will be looking to bounce back. They are going to dominate the ball. Everyone is going to have to play their best game and we’re still going to need a bit of luck.”
