Bob MacIntyre will try and clean up his act when it comes to swearing, but insists he isn’t going to change how he speaks to people.
The Oban golfer apologised for letting rip with expletives during the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship on Friday after he finished his round with a double bogey. And while he’s willing to work on not turning the air so blue, he can’t guarantee he’ll be cusring under his breath in the future…because he’s Scottish, after all.
Sky commentators had to apologise when McIntyre dropped a number of F-bombs . But he reassured fans and viewrs that he’s swearing at no-one but himself and it’s difficult to keep a lid on the language with his frustration boils over. He shot a 65 at the Old Course in St Andrews to move 12 under par for the tournament, which is the best way to stop the swearies. He said: “I am trying my best to improve it.
But, look, it’s live sport and it’s the heat of battle. You wouldn’t put a microphone on a football pitch or on a referee because you are going to hear the bad language.
“The other side of it is I’m Scottish and it’s part of our vocabulary. It’s difficult, but I am conscious of it and I am trying my best not to do it too much.
“But, if the microphone is there and it is catching me speaking to Mike [Burrow, his caddie], I’m not going not going to change how I speak to him in a normal conversation just because it’s in my face. But I am trying not to react to the shots as much as I have been.
“Yesterday I was trying my hardest to perform as best I can and I double-bogeyed 18, so I was going to be angry. And what am I going to do when I am angry? I’m probably going to swear to myself.
“It’s not at anybody else – it’s to myself. I am going to swear to myself and call myself things.
