A man was left aghast after taking a UV light to his hotel room, and refused to sleep in it.

Zak Jones, 27, paid just £12.80 for a night’s stay at the Highbury hotel in Blackpool, and showcased what he claimed to be the “worst” conditions he’s encountered in any budget accommodation in a video on social media.

The clip showed potential stains all over the room, prompting Zac to comment: “For £12.80 a night I’m impressed … [but] I’d rather drive home than stay in that bed.” Despite the room offering basics like coffee, tea, and a TV, the UV light exposed severe issues, leading him to brand it “horrible” and “atrocious”.

His findings, which he claimed came from the “worst UV light inspection I’ve ever done”, included alleged stains on the chair, cupboard, and mattress. Social media users echoed Zac’s shock, with one stating: “I first thought it wasn’t too bad but after this never mind I’ll go to a chain hotel.” Another exclaimed: “Hell no.” While a third said: “I’d be booking a Premier Inn and leaving.”

Some commenters noted that low prices come with tempered expectations, yet many agreed they wouldn’t dare sleep there. One user commented: “For £12 I think I’d expect worse.” While another seemed unfazed: “For £12.80 I would still sleep in the bed, even if scenes of crime had just left.”

Zac, who checked out early, held no grudge against the hotel staff, describing them as “friendly.” He wasn’t looking for a refund either, remarking that the pricing was “justified” considering the room’s quality and affordability. He also appeared happy with the shared areas, though he noted some cobwebs and stray hairs

He added: “The room wasn’t the worst I’ve stayed in, despite the price, and I was blown away when the owner said breakfast [was included] – and that it was included in the price!”

The Highbury hotel has been approached for comment.
