If you’re already indulging in your first few pumpkin spiced lattes of the season, it’s time to pay attention because this tip could save you a tidy sum.

TikTok content creator @yourlocalplanteater has urged followers to ‘do themselves a favour’ and stop splashing out on expensive pumpkin spice, suggesting they whip up their own homemade version instead, which she claims tastes just as good – if not better.

She revealed that only four spices are needed to create the perfect pumpkin spice blend, which can then be stored in your spice cabinet to enjoy throughout the season.

It’s no secret that pumpkin spice takes over many people’s lives during autumn, with countless posts on X, previously known as Twitter, declaring as much. One reads: “I love pumpkin spice and everything nice.” And another says: “Pumpkin spice is so good.”

However, @yourlocalplanteater highlighted a pumpkin spice mix listed on Amazon for an eye-watering $18.90 (£14), prompting her to demonstrate how to replicate that flavour for less.

The recipe calls for cinnamon, nutmeg, ground ginger, and ground cloves. Mix together one teaspoon of cinnamon, three-quarters of a teaspoon of nutmeg, a quarter teaspoon of ground ginger, and an eighth of a teaspoon of ground cloves. She suggests making a “small serving” by combining all the spices in a small bowl, stirring them together, and then using the mixture as desired.

Alternatively, you could whip up a “DIY jar” of the spice by taking a small jar and throwing in all the necessary components. She elaborated: “Continue to add each measurement of ingredients into the jar that is almost full. Leave at least an inch of room in the jar to give it all a good shake to combine the seasonings. Add it on whatever your heart desires some pumpkin spice on.”
