The Scottish Premiership weekend action comes to an end this weekend in an unusual Sunday night under the lights clash at Ibrox.

Rangers play host to St Johnstone as they look to bounce back from their Europa League battering by Lyon at the same venue on Thursday night.

Philippe Clement and his troops went down 4-1 to the Ligue 1 outfit as they look to head into the international break on a high – but come up against a Saints side with a new man in charge after Simo Valakari was handed the top job in Perth.

The Light Blues will be desperate to keep the pressure up on the top two with both Celtic and Aberdeen leaving it late to maintain their 100 per cent records against Ross County and Hearts.

Both have now won seven out of seven and Clement and Co will need to bag a full complement of points tonight to reduce the gap back down to five ahead of the break in domestic action. St Johnstone are sitting 11th just two points off bottom spot but could leapfrog a host of rivals down the bottom end with a big upset in Govan.

Record Sport will bring you all the big news both pre and post-match at Ibrox including the breaking team news, the big talking points, goals and all the drama. Stick with us throughout the evening as we bring you all the latest updates LIVE right here!

Action aplenty

There’s been more free-flowing Scottish Premiership action than you can shake a stick at on this first Sunday in October and our final match of the evening sees Rangers host St Johnstone, with the Ibrox club needing all three points to keep up with the relentless pace being set by bitter rivals Celtic and Aberdeen – who both snatched victory from the jaws of defeat this afternoon to make it seven wins out of seven.

Philippe Clement knows he needs a response from his wounded charges after Thursday night’s home humbling against Lyon, while Simo Valakari takes the reins at Saints for the first time.

It’s sure to be a cracker for this very continental kick-off slot, with the match pushed out to this evening due to the Great Scottish Run in Glasgow today and you can up with all the pre-match, match action and reaction LIVE right here.

Fancy a flutter?

Rangers are the massive odds-on favourites for three points at Ibrox.

Bet365 have priced a home win at just 1/9 while a St Johnstone upset can be backed at a huge 18/1.

The draw is available at 17/2 if punters fancy backing a share of the spoils in Govan.

Clement’s view on St Johnstone test

Philippe Clement admits Rangers won’t have a clue what to expect from St Johnstone with Simo Valakari now in charge.
The Ibrox men last faced St Johnstone under the leadership of Craig Levein but with a new man in the dugout, the Belgian doesn’t really know how they will approach the game at Ibrox tonight.

You cannot predict. They had a manager a few weeks ago when we played against them [in a 2-0 Premier Sports Cup win]. He was sacked after so the interim manager did the job and did it in a different way.

Now, a new manager has come in, so we don’t have any clue how they’re going to approach the game. So the most important thing stays, like we always do, we look first at ourselves to play the game. And I think the main target now is to recover really well after the game on Thursday, to be good again on Sunday, to make the difference against them and to play our football.

Story of the day

It’s been quite the day of top flight action so far.

Celtic had to respond from going a goal down at Ross County to secure all three points and remain 100 per cent so far.

Alistair Johnston and Nicolas Kuhn turned the game on its head after Ronan Hale smashed home from the spot – at the second attempt after a retake was ordered.

Aberdeen then showed they are up for the battle as they also made it seven from seven in a five-goal thriller.

It was a rollercoaster afternoon as the Dons took an early lead, fell 2-1 behind and then hit twice to win 3-2.

Now it is the turn of Rangers and St Johnstone with the hosts looking to keep the pressure up on the top two at the top end of the table, while the visitors will be eyeing a big upset and a huge three points to move away from the bottom end.

Hello and welcome!
