Sausage rolls from Greggs are a classic British staple, making it hard to imagine experiencing one for the first time. Yet, David Turek, an American student, did just that, gaining over 30,000 followers on TikTok in the process.

The 26-year-old, from Chesapeake, Virginia, uses his TikTok account @davidturek23 to review British fayre, after taking inspiration from UK TikTokers sampling American foods.

His videos often rack up hundreds of thousands of views, featuring him tasting various British classics – from fish and chips to crumpets, as we previously reported.

David’s review of the Greggs sausage roll last year was particularly memorable, gaining lots of attention. “Holy s***!, 9.8 out of 10, that’s f***ing lovely,” he exclaimed.

He also commented on trying fish and chips for the first time, which he described as “absolutely sensational”.

“That meal was absolutely sensational, and I haven’t really experienced anything like that in the US,” he remarked about the dish.

His explorations into British cuisine have also included sweet treats such as French fancies, crumpets and Battenberg cake, along with Easter favourites like Cadbury Crème Eggs.

However, the traditional Sunday roast didn’t initially appeal to him due to its large amount of gravy, with David explaining that the dish was “drenched in gravy.” To his surprise, after trying it at a pub in Wales, he found it quite enjoyable.

David noted that the quality of food in the UK surpasses that in the US.

But the two things he hasn’t warmed up to are the Scottish breakfast staple black pudding and Marmite.

“The worst British food I’ve eaten. I honestly get sick just thinking about it, especially the Marmite,” he confessed.

On his travel bucket list of cities to visit in the UK are still Edinburgh, Liverpool, Yorkshire, London and Cardiff.
