During Sunday’s results show of Strictly Come Dancing, viewers witnessed an uncomfortable moment. Claudia Winkleman was catching up with the celebrities and their dance professionals, eager to tease the upcoming performances.

When she spoke with pro dancer Nikita Kuzmin and his celebrity partner Sam Quek, Claudia mentioned: “You’ve got a great song next week! ” Nikita then revealed their Samba would be to Shakira, leading him to spontaneously perform a mash-up of Hips Don’t Lie and Whenever, Wherever.

Claudia had to cut in, correcting him with: “Nikita, I love you so much but it was the other Shakira song…” leaving Nikita to hide his embarrassment behind his hands as his fellow competitors burst into laughter.

Trying and failing to sing the correct tune, Nikita elicited even more giggles, prompting Claudia to interject again: “I love you…” while others chimed in with: “Shakira, I’m sorry.”

In response to the mix-up, Claudia brushed it off saying: “It’s okay, she’s super busy, that’ll do! “, reports the Mirror.

Viewers were left in stitches after a gaffe on the show, with many flocking to Twitter, formerly known as ‘X’, to voice their amusement. One viewer tweeted: “Omfg I am absolutely CRYING at Nikita singing the wrong shakira song absolute SCENES in the Clauditorium tonight #Strictly” while another chimed in with: “Not Nikita singing the wrong Shakira song #strictly”.

A third comment read: “how did nikita get the wrong song #strictly”, and yet another person remarked: “So this results show isn’t live and yet they left in Nikita’s mistake about the song? ! That’s cruel! #Strictly.”

The hilarity occurred subsequent to Saturday nights episode premiere which saw professional dancers transform into characters from the Despicable Me franchise. Kai Widdrington embodied Gru, the notorious protagonist, as his fellow dancers slipped into yellow bodysuits playing the Minions.

In the meantime, celebrity contestants and their dance partners performed dazzling movie-inspired numbers complete with stunning outfits. However, Sunday’s continuation brought an end to Toyah Willcox and Neil Jones journey in the beloved BBC One dance contest as they faced elimination, alongside Paul Merson and Karen Hauer in the bottom two.

Earlier in the week, it was anticipated that Nick Knowles and partner Luba Mushtuk would deliver a Charleston to the tune of ‘Rain On The Roof’ from Paddington 2, until an injury forced Nick to withdraw last Friday.

Last weekend saw Olympian Tom Dean and his dance partner Nadiya Bychkova become the first pair to be eliminated from the competition.
