If you’re searching for a warm and sunny getaway this autumn, one region in Italy stands out as a must-visit – Puglia, in the country’s southeast.

Puglia is the perfect escape from the chilly and gloomy weather typical of the UK. Known for its extensive coastline, picturesque villages, and outstanding food and wine, the region offers an authentic Italian experience.

During autumn, temperatures remain comfortably in the mid-20Cs, and with summer tourists gone, Puglia becomes a serene haven. Its uncrowded beaches, where the Adriatic Sea meets the Ionian Sea, are ideal for relaxation.

The coastline boasts stunning beaches such as Torre dell’Orso, Punta Prosciutto, and Pescoluse – often referred to as the “Maldives of Puglia” – known for their fine sand and crystal-clear waters. Many travellers describe it as “heaven on Earth” after visiting.

Megan Frederick, who shared her experience on TikTok, captured the soft white sands and turquoise waters in a video that gained over 2.7 million views. “POV: You decide to go where the Italians go on vacation in Italy,” she wrote, showing off views from a boat trip along the coast in Puglia.

In the caption, the 28-year-old, from Charleston, added: “Actually heaven on earth. So calm and beautiful and authentic.” Many TikTok users agreed as they took to the comments, wanting to go for themselves.

One user commented: “Just did a Puglia trip, it was so beautiful,” while another said: “This is what I was looking for – authentic and not overcrowded.”

Puglia’s other attractions include Lecce, often called the “Florence of the South” for its rich Roman history, and Polignano a Mare, a cliffside town offering panoramic views and beautiful beaches. Wine lovers can also enjoy tastings during the grape harvest in September and October.

Autumn is an excellent time for coastal boat trips too, exploring ancient villages like Monopoli and Otranto from a fresh perspective. From the sea, visitors can admire Puglia’s fascinating history, ancient architecture, and natural beauty.
