Princess Kate loves to indulge in a spot of retail therapy from time to time. But one relatable blunder while out shopping saw Kate let slip a secret name she would sometimes go by.

It happened shortly after she wed Prince William in 2011, and the couple spent the early days of their marriage living in Wales where the young Royal was a search and rescue pilot based at RAF Valley.

They lived in a small farmhouse near the seaside resort of Rhosneigr in Anglesey as at the time and neither of them were full-time working royals, the Mirror reports.

Locals often reported seeing Kate doing a food shop in the town’s Waitrose supermarket and browsing other stores. During a visit to sports shop Funsport, Kate suffered an embarrassing blunder when she gave a shopkeeper a secret name.

As she tried to buy a wetsuit, she realised she had forgotten her purse. Oblivious shopkeeper Dave Buckland then asked Kate for her name so she could reserve the sportswear – and she gave him the name “Mrs Cambridge“.

According to the Mail on Sunday – the shopkeeper was non the wiser at her nod to her former title the Duchess of Cambridge.

An unnamed source told the newspaper back in 2012: “He was looking straight at her and actually commented that it was quite an unusual surname. He hadn’t a clue who she was. She just smiled and said she’d be back. He hasn’t lived it down since.”

However, it seems it is not the only awkward moment Kate has suffered while out shopping – another came several years ago when she was with her two oldest children Prince George and Princess Charlotte. In 2018, she was spotted with her two eldest children in tow shopping at the Peter Jones department store in London to kit them out with new shoes for school.

A source told Hello! that Kate forgot to take socks for George and Charlotte to wear when they were trying on their new shoes. The youngsters were wearing their summer sandals when they went to pick out their new shoes. So like many mums before her, Kate had to borrow socks from the store so she could make sure she was buying them in the correct sizes.

Before attending Lambrook, George and Charlotte have both been at Thomas’s School in Battersea, with Prince Louis at Wilcocks Nursery School in South Kensington. Their current school, Lambrook, is a day and boarding school for boys and girls aged from three to 13 years. The Wales children are day pupils for now.
