AUSTIN, Texas — During the first weekend of the Austin City Limits Music Festival, attendees had the chance to do more than just listen to great artists.
Headcount Austin spent the weekend inside Zilker Park helping festivalgoers register to vote ahead of Monday’s deadline in Texas for the upcoming election.
The organization has been registering voters at ACL Festival for more than a decade.
“We’re seeing just so much excitement, so many people engaging with us,” Max Mead, touring representative with Headcount. “We’re on a record-breaking pace for Austin City Limits, and we’re seeing that across the country as well.”
Mead is one of 10 staffers or volunteers helping register voters and answer voting questions near the T-Mobile and BMI stages.

Through Day 2, Mead said they’d helped around 1,000 people.
“Right now, we’re just trying to engage with everybody that we can, take them as they come,” said Mead, during an interview with KVUE on Sunday morning ahead of Day 3. “Our expectations have been just so blown out of the water with everybody ready to talk about voting, ready to check.”
Mead said Headcount will return for ACL Weekend 2 to help people check their voter registration status and answer questions about early voting.
