A woman suffered serious injuries after a horror attack on a woodland path in a Scots town.

The 26-year-old woman was rushed to hospital after she was attacked in a wooded area near a golf club on Abbey Road, Dalkeith.

Emergency services raced to the scene on Friday, October 4. The attack took place between 5.30pm and 6pm that evening.

The woman was rushed to hospital for treatment to serious injuries. Medics describe her condition as stable.

A 32-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident. He has been released pending further enquiries.

Police are still probing the attack and have appealed for further information.

Detectives are working to access CCTV and say they are gathering information from the public.

The shock incident has sparked extra patrols in the area, with officers out in force to provide reassurance to stunned residents in the Midlothian town.

Detective Inspector Laura White said: “Extensive enquiries are being carried out in the local area and we’re continuing to assess CCTV and information from the public.

“I’d like to thank everyone who has come forward so far. Anyone who has yet to speak to police, and has information which may assist our investigation, is asked to contact us.”

Chief Inspector Ben Leathes, Local Area Commander, said: “I’d like to reassure the public, we have increased high visibility patrols in the area and these will continue as our enquiries progress.

“Anyone with information or concerns can speak to these officers.”
