A pitch-perfect celebration was held as Airdrie’s Tartan Army (WEBATA) marked its 25-year anniversary.

A total of 170 guests enjoyed a terrific evening of entertainment in the town’s Tudor Hotel.

Talented youngster Murryn Burns piped in the assembled company, and also provided a wonderful rendition of Highland Cathedral, which set the standard for the evening.

Opening remarks were made by founder member George Spittal, who then introduced Mitchell Gibb as MC for the evening before everyone enjoyed an excellent meal.

Mitchell then introduced beloved local comedian Patrick Rolink, with a few words from guest of honour, former Celtic FC defender Tosh McKinley, following for the engaged audience.

A presentation was made to founder member Scott Rae in recognition of his involvement with WEBATA from all club members.

Scott then gave a passionate small speech on how the organisation had kicked off.

Before the festivities began, Iain Allison gave a poignant speech on departed members.

Mitchell later introduced the John Carmichael and Alan Kitchen Ceilidh band who had the dance floor packed.

After an exhausting hour of all sorts of moves and shapes, Wul Shanks gave the company an insight into the charity donations WEBATA had made over the past 25 years, which allowed the final entertainer to switch places with the ceilidh band.

Mitchell then welcomed a Tartan Army stalwart, and one of Scotland’s top entertainers, Ted Christopher who was in outstanding form for the rest of the night.

A WEBATA spokesman said: “It was our honour to present 15-year-old Murryn Burns with a token of appreciation for her performances, and musical talents.

“Kind-hearted Murryn then chose to donate the sum to St Andrew’s Hospice, which was a wonderful gesture; well done Murryn.

“A great night was had by all and it was a perfect way to celebrate our anniversary.”
