Ayr’s busiest nighttime venue has been placed up for sale.
Harleys Bar in Nile Court and its associated Printhouse events space is being marketed for offers over £950,000.
Boss Fraser MacIntyre, who runs the Beatbox Leisure empire, today confirmed the move to sell off the jewel in his crown.
He told the Ayrshire Post: “I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s finally the right time to slow down and listen to my body for a change.
“Harleys has been an incredibly successful chapter for all of us and along with Funky (Steven Muir) and the team, we have built it up into Ayr’s leading music venue. Over the last 15 years it has become a place where everyone feels welcome.
“The venue has never been more successful and whoever comes in will be inheriting a business that is profitable with even more room for growth.”
MacIntyre, 51, cited health scares in recent years which, combined to his many business interests, had led to the decision to step back.
He added: “It’s the sensible thing to do as there comes a point where you have to slow down to a degree. It’s my time to step down and let someone else have a go.
“I’m very proud of what Harleys has become and the awards down the years speak for themselves and what the team has achieved. Furys was named Scotland’s Nightclub of the Year in 2018 and just last month Funky won Scotland’s Boss of the Year, which is a true testament to the success we’ve had.
“We wanted to make Harleys a true grassroots music venue and I think we can say we truly succeeded in that aim and whoever comes in next will have a fabulous venue to work with.”
Harleys has become a staple of Ayr’s night scene with rocketing success, particularly over the last 10 years. The venue, which is hugely popular among students, also boasts a leading music scene and for many years boasted an associated nightclub in Powerhouse and then Furys.
Latterly, Beatbox transformed their upstairs property into the ‘Printhouse’ events space, with Harleys operating as a bar and nightclub downstairs.
