WASHINGTON COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) – A FEMA Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) will open Monday, October 7 at 8 a.m. at Damascus Shopping Center to provide aid to those impacted by Hurricane Helene.

Residents from Galax, Giles, Grayson County, Montgomery County, Pulaski County, Smyth County, Tazewell County, Washington County, and Wythe County are eligible for assistance. The individual assistance registration deadline is Monday, December 2.

The DRC in Washington County opens from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and is closed on Sundays. You may visit a DRC to:

  • Learn about disaster assistance programs
  • Apply for disaster assistance
  • Check the status of your FEMA application
  • Understand FEMA notices or letters
  • Find housing and rental assistance information
  • Get referrals to agencies
  • Meet with a Small Business Administration (SBA) agent

Survivors do not have to visit a DRC to register with FEMA, but may call 800-621-FEMA (3362). The toll-free telephone line operates seven days a week. If you use a relay service, such as video relay service (VRS), captioned telephone service or others, give FEMA the number for that service. You can also register online or through the FEMA App on your phone.
