Hamilton Accies skipper Scott Martin insists there’s no crisis at New Douglas Park and backs his side to put a run together to fire themselves back up the Championship table.

Accies suffered their fourth defeat in nine games when they went down 1-0 to Queen’s Park on Saturday, slipping to seventh in the table as a result.

Martin’s men have been unable to string results together so far this season, but he believes the team are more than a match for their rivals and they will be able to find a run of form sooner rather than later.

Jack Turner was given far too much time to control a cross into the box and fire home the only goal of the game in 62 minutes, but Accies should have levelled late on when Daire O’Connor fired a volley wide.

And Martin said: “It feels like one week we are high and done really well, and the next week we haven’t. It is a bit up and down.

“We just need to tweak some things. There’s three or four of us in the changing room who’ve said we can do better in certain moments in the game.

“Daire knows himself that he has got better quality than that. There’s other moments in the game. In the first minute I go straight through and make the wrong decision. It’s just wee things we need to tweak.

“We are going toe-to-toe with teams who have been around this league for a while. We need to try and take positives but we have got work to do as well.

“The first goal is vital in this league. They are a really good side and I felt we battled with them very well. We just need to turn these decent performances into points on the board. I think we can do that.

“There are some new players in there and we are trying to gel, but it is a really good squad and group of guys so I think it will turn eventually. I don’t think we are in any kind of crisis or anything.”

Hamilton’s attention now turns to SPFL Trust Trophy action, as they host league rivals Morton on Friday night in a tie beamed live on BBC Alba.

It also starts a run of three home games that could help them build some momentum.

Martin added: “We need to turn our home into a fortress, get the crowd behind us and get as much support as we can. We’ve got three home games coming up now and we need to make the most of it.

“I’ve won the competition before [in 2023 with Accies] and it was one of the best moments of my career. You might never have a chance again to win a trophy so we are looking forward to it.

“Morton are a tough team with a good manager. They are well-drilled and really good at what they do. It will be a really tough game. We need to be on the ball from the get-go.”
