STEVENS COUNTY, Wa. (Gray News) – A “hero dog” helped save its owner who had fallen and had been calling for help for hours.
According to the Stevens County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy patrolling a wooded area found a dog sitting in the roadway.
The deputy tried to get the dog to get his vehicle, but the dog refused, so the deputy checked surrounding homes within a mile and could not find the owner.
The dog still did not move from the road and eventually led the deputy to an unmarked roadway that led to a cabin.
At the cabin, the deputy found an 84-year-old man who was calling for help after he fell and injured his leg. The man had been calling for help for hours.
The sheriff’s office said the man may have had “serious consequences” if he had not been found.
His dog, Gita, is a 13-year-old rescue dog and the man’s best friend who the sheriff’s office credits with saving the man’s life.
“The loyalty and heroism of our furry friends never cease to amaze us,” the sheriff’s office wrote on Facebook. “Thank you Gita for being a good girl and true hero!”
