Even the royals aren’t exempt from kitchen mishaps as it’s been revealed that King Charles was once left horrified and highly confused by the sight of seeing cling film for the first time.

Tom Bower, the author known for his insights into royal peculiarities and who wrote ‘Rebel Prince’ about Charles, recounted an episode where the now-King “shrieked” and “trembled” upon encountering the common household item.

As he adjusts to contemporary meal habits, the 75-year-old monarch has finally taken to having lunch, traditionally a meal he would skip.

The Mail on Sunday reveals that the King’s new, albeit modest, indulgence is half an avocado, a dish popular among millennials including Meghan Markle.

A source disclosed to the Mail that despite initial hesitation, Charles decided to have a small midday meal to sustain him throughout the day, stating: “With some reluctance, he now has something to eat at lunchtime a snack, really. He now eats half an avocado to sustain him through the day. It’s important, particularly if you have got an illness.”

Bower’s biography underscored Prince Philip’s worries about Charles’ detachment from everyday life, with the cling film incident serving as a prime example, according to the Mirror.

His wife Camilla played the role of a comforting presence during the unexpected incident, as Bower explained in his book book: “He walked into the dining room and shrieked. Fearing the worst, Camilla dashed in after him. ‘What’s this? ‘ asked her husband, pointing at the food.”

Camilla responded with composure, “‘It’s cling film, darling.” This excerpt, initially published in the Guardian, has not elicited any response from Clarence House concerning the book’s release.

There is widespread speculation about whether Charles was genuinely taken aback by the sight of cling film, and the authenticity of other stories from ‘Rebel Prince’. Regardless, the biography continues to captivate with its portrayal of royal life.

In a recent disclosure, Queen Camilla’s son revealed that King Charles III is staunchly against waste. Tom Parker Bowles, a food critic and writer, provided insights into his stepfather’s environmentally friendly habits, emphasising that Charles insists on recycling and reusing leftovers.

Tom, 49, elaborated: “There is no waste, everything is recycled, everything is used from the table. If anything is leftover from the dinner, that will be made into something else or appear the next day. Nothing’s allowed to be thrown out.”

Following the announcement of Charles’ cancer diagnosis by Buckingham Palace in February, Parker Bowles reassured the public, stating his “doctor says the treatment is going well.” Tom Bower’s book also reveals Charles’ dressing habits, indicating he changes his attire up to four times a day, and outlines his large 120-person entourage.

The former Prince of Wales follows a precise daily schedule, which includes a 5pm sandwich break as revealed by his former press secretary, before continuing work until midnight.
