Generations Working Together brought an intergenerational learning roadshow to Dumfries.
Supporting the development and integration of intergenerational work across Scotland, the Dumfries roadshow was the fifth in this year’s series and ran for four hours at Dumfries Carers Centre, 2-6 Nith Street.
Loreburn Housing and Jaybees Nursery intergenerational projects took part and it is now hoped that it will “encourage conversations that lead to more intergenerational practice in communities living in Dumfries, helping people to understand that intergenerational work is not just nice, but essential in reducing loneliness and isolation and reconnecting generations”.
Chief executive of Generations Working Together, Alison Clyde added: “Intergenerational learning can combat social isolation and loneliness in older people, build confidence, empathy, compassion and social responsibility in younger people and for the community itself improve social cohesion, reduce ageism, strengthening social networks and contributes to the development of all age-friendly communities.”
