A near capacity crowd gathered at The Crichton Golf Club on Tuesday, October 1 for the monthly meeting of Dumfries Accordion and Fiddle Club.

Guest artistes for the evening were Biggar-based accordionist Fin Hope and his trio, comprising of Fin with Tom Gold playing fiddle and Jim Gold on piano.

What great guests they were too, a fine blend between accordion and fiddle, accompanied superbly by Jim on piano, a great sound and a varied selection of tunes, giving the large audience much to cheer.

Local and supporting players all managed a tune under the guidance of compere John Caskie – playing fiddle: John Cowan (Kirkcudbright); tin whistles: William Little (Dumfries) and Madeline Maxwell (Gretna); accordionists: John Douglas, (Dumfries) Stuart Faulds (Ayrshire), Bob Watson (Torthorwald), John Waugh (Carlisle), Barbara Fisher (Dumfries), Fred Prise (Lochmaben), Gavin Foster (Dumfries) and Brian Maxwell (Gretna); drummers: Billy Porter (Gretna) and Rob Dorrance (Kirkpatrick Fleming) with William McRobert (Moffat) playing piano.

A massive raffle and refreshments served by the staff at the golf club were included in the night’s proceedings and helped make it another successful and enjoyable night.

Next month’s meeting is on November 5 when five row button key accordionist Johnny Duncan is the guest artiste.

Everyone welcome. Admission £5 with local supporting players admitted free.
