A Bellshill man has been jailed for a year after he was caught with more than 3000 child abuse photos and videos.
Police also found evidence that Euan Mair had been sharing the graphic material with online friends.
Mair, 25, of Helenslea Place, was put on the sex offenders’ register for 10 years when he appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court.
He admitted downloading and possessing indecent images of children between January 3, 2022, and April 23 last year.
He also admitted distributing or sharing material.
John Coogan, prosecuting, said police met Mair when they arrived at his home with a search warrant. They seized a mobile phone and an iPad that he admitted belonged to him.
Photos and movies featuring children being sexually abused were found on both devices.
Mr Coogan told the court: “There were online conversations in which the accused discussed a sexual interest in children.
“There were 10 instances of him distributing indecent images of children to other users of a social media platform.”
Sheriff Colin Dunipace told Mair, who has no previous convictions: “You have pleaded guilty to extremely serious offences.”
