During Tuesday’s episode of BBC Breakfast, host Jon Kay engaged in conversation with Sir David Jason about his upcoming memoir.

The chat swiftly moved to the topic of the BBC sitcom Still Open All Hours, which was put on hold due to Covid back in 2019.

Jon pointed out that the team was ready to film another series before the pandemic halted production, reports the Express.

He asked: “It’s still not being made, is there any chance, you think that that could still happen?”.

Sir David disclosed: “Roy Clarke who was the original writer of Still Open All Hours and Open All Hours, had already half or three-quarters written a whole series for the last series.”

The beloved actor shared that within the show, two characters are poised to wed, among other plot developments.

He continued: “A lot of storylines were left a bit open. It was cancelled originally because of Covid and they thought it would be lovely to wind it all up.

“We all gave it the green light and it went off to the BBC and we’re still waiting.

“So, if anybody is at the BBC and wanted a series that the audiences like, we’ve got it ready! Ready to go and it’s off and running, it’ll be great.”

Jon probed whether he’d relish the opportunity to conclude the sitcom, to which he responded affirmatively: “It would be nice, also it’ll be lovely to get back with the cast that we had such good fun with.”

Still Open All Hours first graced our screens in 2013 and enjoyed a run of six series until 2019.

The series followed an older Granville, portrayed by David, who was managing his late uncle’s grocery shop with the assistance of his son.

The final episode of Still Open All Hours that viewers saw was a holiday special at the end of 2019 before the show was put on hold.

It depicted Granville’s efforts to bring back the magic of Christmas, but as is typical in sitcoms, things didn’t go exactly as planned.

This Time Next Year – David’s inspiring new memoir for 2024 – will be released on October 10 and you can preorder here on Amazon.

Still Open All Hours can be viewed on BBC iPlayer.

BBC Breakfast airs on weekdays on BBC One starting at 6am.
