After nearly a decade, the iconic McRib is making a return to McDonald’s menus across the UK. The foodie favourite hasn’t been seen since 2015, when fans couldn’t get enough.
To mark its comeback, TikTok channel @madaboutmaccies gave a behind-the-scenes look at how the McRib is crafted from start to finish. A statement from McDonald’s said of the beloved burger: “The McRib starts with seasoned boneless pork dipped in a tangy barbecue sauce, topped with slivered onions and tangy pickles, all served on a toasted homestyle bun.
“When everything combines you have barbecue pork sandwich perfection. But its availability is limited – stay tuned at your local McDonald’s for when the McRib is available near you.” According to the video, the process begins with heating the barbecue sauce before grilling the McRib patty for approximately 106 seconds.
The cooked McRibs are then submerged in the sauce to marinate while the buns are toasted. Onions and pickles are added as toppings before the McRib patty is added, ready to be served to the customer.
One Reddit user couldn’t contain their anticipation for the McRib, saying: “I want to try it. After reading your review, will ask for extra pickles. I tried the Ribwich at Universal Orlando and was disappointed. Needed more pickles and it was a bit dry but enjoyed the ‘rib’.”
Another enthusiast chimed in: “I love them! I’ve had six so far and just can’t get enough. I ordered without pickles and wished they had a less sauce option like Burger King does. I’ll be sad when they’re gone again.”
Meanwhile, a third fan advised: “It tastes very good with less sauce than they normally put. When you order it, tell them to hold back on it. It makes a world of difference.”
Another added their two cents: “The last time I had a McRib was whenever they were last available. Bought one immediately upon seeing the advertisement. The first two bites were a pleasantly tasty walk down memory lane. The last bite was met with the realisation I’m good for another 10+ years.”
Discussing the much-anticipated return of the McRib to UK menus on October 16, Thomas O’Neill, Head of Menu at McDonald’s UK, said: “It is more than just a sandwich; it’s a phenomenon. We have heard our fans loud and clear – the fan petitions and pleas on social – and after almost a decade of anticipation, we are thrilled to bring back this iconic menu item.”
He added: “Knowing how well-loved the McRib is, we had very little choice – we had to make it happen. It was time to step up and satisfy the cravings of McRib enthusiasts across the country.”
