A total of 61 primary schools from across Ayrshire took part in a Junior Road Safety Officer (JRSO) seminar in Kilmarnock.
The seminar was held to introduce this year’s new JRSOs to their role which involves promoting road safety and active travel within their school.
131 JRSOs attended workshops focusing on the Highway Code, the Green Cross Code, active school travel and the new STARS award (Sustainable Travel and Road Safety) which the schools will be aiming for throughout the academic year.
The pupils also had the chance to meet and share ideas with JRSOs from other schools.
Councillor Jim McMahon, Cabinet Spokesperson for Housing, Transport and Communities, said: “Road safety and active travel are such important issues, and seeing the young people’s enthusiasm for promoting these within their schools was very impressive. I wish all of our new JRSOs every success in their roles which I’m sure they will carry out brilliantly.”
