While G Donaldson’s Traditional Family Butchers have been operating for two years and Hair by Gillian & Michelle were at Whatriggs Road for over three decades, with Gillian taking over the hairdressers 35 years ago and Michelle joining the team 20 years ago.

A Scents of Scotland owner Stuart Nairn said: “We decided to tidy up the shop fronts as they were looking tired and the wood work around the windows was in need of repair at several points.

“It was a joint idea between myself, Graham, Gillian & Michelle.

“We wanted to make the visual impact of our shops much more modern and pleasing – with what we think are fantastic results, and many locals have said it looks amazing.”

Stuart continued: “Jim Todd, Councillor & Provost of East Ayrshire also visited Whatriggs Road to show his support and was extremely happy with the improvements that were made to the shops.”

The work was undertaken by a brand new business SPJ Property Care, a business started by 18-year-old Stuart Ridgway to provide property maintenance services such as garden work and decorating, as well as outdoor work such as refreshing shop fronts and painting the exterior of homes.

It took approximately a week for all three shop fronts to be completed by SPJ Property Care.

Stuart said: “We decided to use SPJ Property Care for a few reasons – we feel it’s important to keep our business local, we liked the idea of using a new company and we also liked the fact Stuart is so young and has started his own business.

“We knew about SPJ Property Care because Stuart is my son. Although the works would have been getting done anyway, we wanted to help Stuart get off the ground with his new business and we have had several comments about how the quality of the work is superb.”
