Finding a suitable outfit for the office can often be a struggle as finding that balance between smart-casual without appearing too laid-back or overdressed is not as easy as it looks.

Thankfully, Marks and Spencer is always a reliable place to find a selection of easy-to-wear basics that can be styled for work, nights outs or running errands.

One pair of trousers in particular from the high street store, which retail for £39.50, have caught some shopper’s eyes.

The Cargo Wide Leg Trousers, which are made from a lightweight polyester material, are available in a range of sizes from sizes six to 24 as well as short/petite, regular and tall lengths, the M.E.N reports.

Manchester Evening News reporter Shawna Healey has written up her honest review of the Marks and Spencer’s Cargo Wide Leg Trousers in her own words.

Shawna’s review

The high street retailer’s Cargo Wide Leg Trousers have returned for another year and I’m so glad. I picked up a pair last winter and I’ve basically worn them at least once a week since then. I own the black pair and I’m definitely going to pick up the light slate and dark green colourways for this autumn and winter.

The Cargo Wide Leg Trousers cost £39.50 and come in a range of sizes and lengths, all of which are still in stock. Shoppers can pick them up in short/petite, regular and tall, as well as in sizes six to 24.

The cargo trousers are crafted from made from a lightweight polyester that gives them a breezy feel. I hang them up straight away after drying on a clothes horse and find that they never need ironing, which is always a plus.

They’ve been cut in an easy wide leg design that lends an air of sophistication to the otherwise edgy style.

Plus, they’re finished off with a high elasticated waistband that is not only comfortable but are slimming and help me feel confident as a size 16. I keep the pockets as a decorative feature, but you could fill them if you need extra space.

It’s not just Shawna who is a fan of the Cargo Wide Leg Trousers, as the item has garnered an impressive 4.6 out of five stars in customer ratings.

Delving into the reviews, one shopper enthused: “Great fitting trousers. Nice length. Good quality fabric and good fit.”

Another customer chimed in: “Soft and glamorous. Love these trousers, they are so soft and silky. Could be dressed up and dressed down.”

Meanwhile, a different reviewer added: “Very comfy, and fit nicely, lovely light material that washes well and hung up whilst wet and no ironing needed. What’s not to like? “

Nonetheless, there was a less than glowing three-star review for the Cargo Wide Leg Trousers with one individual branding them ‘disappointing’.

Their grievances were outlined: “They’re extremely shiny and slippy. The drawstring fixture at the base of the hem looks odd and isn’t great if you are wearing them long over boots – they feel a bit trip-inducing. I bought the long, as I’m tall.

“The top part isn’t quite long enough however to fasten around my waist, and as there’s no back elastic, or any give at all, they don’t fit as there’s no way of making them work around the top of your hip. So they’re going back unfortunately.”

Conversely, another person gushed: “These are just the comfiest trousers. The material is light but holds the shape well. Fits true to size. Dress them up or just wear casually. Either way, they look fab.”

Also making waves at Marks and Spencer are the Jersey Checked Slim Fit Ankle Grazer Trousers. Priced at £17.50, they’ve garnered 70 reviews, with customers praising them as ‘stylish’ and ‘flattering’.

If you’re not entirely sold on Marks and Spencer’s £39.50 cargo trousers, other retailers have got you covered. Next offers 100% Cotton Adjustable Waist Cargo Trousers for £32 in three colours, while New Look has these £34.99 Black High Waist Cargo Jeans.
