TV icon Miranda Hart has confirmed she got secretly married and gushed that ‘someone put a ring on it’. The 51-year-old star appeared on The One Show on Tuesday evening to promote her new book, I Haven’t Been Entirely Honest With You.

She quickly startled presenters Alex Jones and Alex Scott when she shared the joyful news. The comedian also discusses her mystery marriage in the book.

While describing her relationship, she remained mysterious but acknowledged that “someone placed a ring on it!” Miranda cheerfully recounted that she met “her person” at the age of 49 while facing chronic illness.

She said: “I’m married! I got married at 51 and it’s just so lovely! I’d written Gary for onscreen Miranda and it wasn’t until I was 49 that I met my person. It’s a little undercurrent in the book, I’m not going to reveal how we met because that’s a little bit of a twist. He’s my best friend, we had the best fun and I’m just thrilled to be a young bride at 51.”

There was a lot of speculation about her marital status when she was promoting her new book. She teased fans that she “couldn’t possibly say if there is a love story in it… (There is – shush) Exciting.”

In recent social media videos, she may also be seen wearing a wedding band. Locals near her west London house have also spotted her with an unnamed man.

Miranda spoke out in August about her secret illness, which led her to gain weight. She stated she “felt guilt” over her weight fluctuation, since she no longer felt like herself. In the video posted on social media, the actress did not clarify what sickness she was suffering from.

She revealed she spent a lot of time and effort trying to change the negative emotions she has towards her body. In the caption, she said: “I have found it incredibly hard not to feel shame from gaining weight over the last three years. Not because of striving for an aesthetic ideal but because it doesn’t represent me and who I naturally am.

“But life happens. Illness happens. And it’s a great way to keep focusing on the greatest healer – self-compassion. If I lose it or not I know I am loved. Peace out.” In the video, Miranda rocked a simple t-shirt with the word ‘proud’ emblazoned in the middle as she held up her new book.
