When it comes to naming a baby, most parents spend months pondering over potential monikers to pick the perfect one.
However, some already have a name in mind for their child even before conception. Regrettably, one man found himself named after his teenage mum’s obsession at the time – RuneScape, a fantasy multiplayer online role-playing game.
Sharing his experience on Reddit, he revealed: “My mother got pregnant with me when she was 16. She’d been a massive RuneScape fan at the time, and in her naive teenager way, had worked out what she wanted to name her kids because of that game: Fletcher, Archer, and Hunter. She abandoned the idea by the time my younger brother was born, but I still got stuck with Fletcher, since I was born in that time of her life.”
Yet, this isn’t even the worst part as his initials, unfortunately, spell out a gay slur, making his name ‘one of the worst out there’. He further explained: “My dad wanted me to have an eloquent middle name. The name he picked so happened to be Alexander. I also got stuck with his last name (for the sake of privacy, I’m still going to use the abbreviation of G). Because of this unfortunate string of events, my initials are F, and then A, then G. I got named a gay slur.”
He posed a question to Reddit users: “Don’t get me wrong – it’s an accurate descriptor – but I still need to know. Is this as bad as I think it is or am I just overreacting?” One user responded to his post, saying: “Mine are LSD. Had to make a new email to apply to jobs as none were responding at all.”Another user chimed in: “Eh, you’re fine. I have a good friend who’s STD and no one noticed after high school.”
A third user commented: “The “don’t get me wrong – it’s an accurate descriptor” absolutely sent me. I don’t think that many people pay too much attention to initials unless you’re getting fancy monogrammed towels or something like that. But at least you have a great sense of humour about the whole thing!”
