Outlander actor Sam Heughan set pulses racing as he donned an American football kit to greet fans across the pond.

The star is visiting San Francisco to promote his award-winning spirit brand, Sassenach whisky.

To mark Heughan’s arrival in the Bay area, the Scottish heartthrob was treated to a tour of Levi’s Stadium, home of American football team the San Francisco 49ers.

In photos shared with his 4.3 million Instagram followers, Sam sports a 49ers baseball cap and a red team jersey emblazoned with the number 97. A beaming Heughan is also seen flanked by four cheerleaders with pompoms.

A later video posted to the star’s Instagram stories also shows Heughan walking across the field with the caption “Let’s GOOOOO!!!!!”, before he declares: “awesome, this is so cool”.

The athletic pictures sent fans into a frenzy in the UK and America, with one declaring: “Two of my favorite things Sam and the 49ers!” (sic).

Another wrote: “Bang Bang Niner Gangggg! Represent!”, while a third fan admitted: “First time I wanted to be a cheerleader.”

This is by no means the first time that the Outlander actor has transformed into a devoted NFL fan. Heughan has previously shared his support for the Chicago Bears, as well as for the Los Angeles Chargers, via social media.

Filming for the eighth and final season of Outlander has recently wrapped, leaving the actor free to pursue his popular spirits business.

Since launching in 2020, Sassenach whisky has picked up a slew of international awards, earning the Scots star new fans across the globe.

Heughan previously told the Scotch Malt Whisky Society that his trademark drink was the result of “the lifelong dream of having my own dram”.

The actor added to his whisky’s impressive track record during his visit to the Bay area, picking up an award for the Best Blended Scotch at the 2024 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
