Certain pennies are currently the talk of the town, with a ‘super rare’ 2p coin believed to be highly sought after among collectors. This little treasure was recently showcased on TikTok by @CoinCollectingWizard, who boasts 202,000 fans.
If you’re not one of his followers, he’s renowned for sharing rare coins that could fetch a pretty penny at auctions. He recently caused a stir when he discussed a penny worth a staggering £200,000 – do you have it in your possession?
In a recent video, he detailed a UK penny from 1952, describing it as an “intriguing” proof coin that is the rarest in the entire series of copper and bronze pennies.
He revealed: “The existence of this unique 1952 proof penny was not known publicly until its initial appearance at an auction in 1977, some 45 years after it was struck.
“The British world was astonished to see this coin appear and in proof quality as this was not known to exist. The 1952 proof penny remains an enigma as the only unique proof striking of a pre-decimal penny of the 20th century.”
Delving further into the coin’s history, he remarked: “It is perhaps understandable that the George VI 1952 remains a unique piece as the King died very early in 1952, passing away on February 6.
“A lovely example went up for auction recently and sold for £200,000, so it is 100% a coin to look out for.”
The video, which was only recently posted, has already attracted 500 likes and nearly 120 comments. One person commented: “I have plenty of coins,” another admitted: “I have 1952.” A third chimed in: “I have a double-headed one.”
