School pupils in North Lanarkshire may see changes in their term times as the council is to investigate the benefits of possible alterations to holidays.

Councillors unanimously agreed to a composite motion which instructs officers to prepare a report on three options which will be considered by the education committee when it meets in February.

The motion was inspired by recent consultations which indicated most people in North Lanarkshire supported revisions to the school timetable.

The options which will be considered include an earlier return to school following the summer holidays, a longer February break and an extended October holiday, with the earliest implementations of these changes to come in 2026.
