Rangers are facing yet another high profile departure with football operations director Creag Robertson set to quit the club.
The Ibrox outfit are already operating without a chief executive, head of academy and a permanent chairman. Now interim board boss John Gilligan faces having another role to fill after being informed Robertson is also stepping down. Record Sport understands he has resigned to pursue “new opportunities” elsewhere and will be clearing his desk before Christmas.
The former Falkirk exec joined Rangers in 2016 as Head of Business and Education. He was promoted to director of football operations in June last year, where he had a significant role helping to shape Philippe Clement and recruitment chief Nils Koppen’s vision for the new-look Light Blues squad. He is the latest in a string of major departures to have rocked the club in recent months. James Bisgrove resigned as CEO back in June after taking up a job at Saudi outfit Al-Qadsiah.
His exit came just as it emerged a construction cock-up on the Copland Road end would force Clement’s team to make a temporary flit to Hampden. That blunder sparked a furious backlash from fans, with the strain too much for then chairman John Bennett to take amid health issues.
Youth boss Zeb Jacobs, meanwhile, has also packed his bags after being lured back to Holland by Eredivisie giants Feyenoord. Former director Gilligan was brought back to replace Bennett and has made finding a new CEO and chairman his priority.
“I will stay on as long as required,” he said last month. “The main priority is to get a chief executive. We are working on that right away. I can stay on indefinitely, I am expecting a few months and a chairman to come in too.”
