Scott McTominay fever is sweeping Italy and a top agent in the country reckons he could be ‘one of the best midfielders in Napoli history.’
The former Manchester United playmaker has taken to Serie A like a duck to water and scored his first goal after his 25 seconds against Como. His early performances have been dazzling with McTominay finally getting the chance to show his attacking midfield credentials, which Steve Clarke unlocked for Scotland, at club level regularly.
He looks well worth the £21m Antonio Conte’s team shelled out to land him from Manchester United, and while his Scotland teammate Billy Gilmour has had to wait for his chances, McTominay has instantly becoming a key player. His arrival has led to a change of shape from Conte and they are top of the table with five wins from seven games.
The hype is growing and FIFA agent Cristian Bosco Lunedi appeared to get ahead of himself in a recent interview with Canale 8. Just five games into his Napoli career, he reckons McTominay has the potential to put himself up there with Marek Hamsik as the club’s greatest EVER midfielders.
He said: “You can be a winner even if you have different DNA. This Napoli is a cynical Napoli. McTominay will still have to prove himself in Italy, but he is potentially one of the best midfielders in Napoli’s history. I’ll throw down a provocation. This year’s Napoli has no opponents, only Napoli can lose this Scudetto!”
Boss Conte previously singled out the 27-year-old for major praise since his move. He reckons goalscoring is part of the midfielder’s DNA. He added: “Scott is a player who has goals in his blood; he’s very good at making runs into the box. He has excellent technical qualities, as well as an important physical stature. And he’s strong in the air. In his DNA, he has quite a few goals.”
