A woman showed how you can turn basic council houses into lovely spaces that really feel like home.

On TikTok, the fajolu_family_home channel has been posted plenty of handy DIY tips. And they know what they’re talking about – as they’ve really spruced up their property.

When they were first handed the keys, there was no carpet, flooring and hardly any paint on the walls. But nowadays, their dwelling looks totally dreamy.

It has a pristine white and grey entrance, a sleek grey interior and plush bedrooms. The decor, which includes hanging mirrors, is stunning.

What’s more, they’ve even given the garden a makeover too. Outside, you’ll see they’ve tidied up the patio and also scattered some chippings in certain areas.

There’s also a garden sofa and table and chairs outside to enable them to relax in the sunshine. And now, some think the property looks more like a show home!

Since the video was shared, it’s been liked more than 3,000 times and amassed plenty of positive comments. One person said: “Looks beautiful – very classy.”

Another wrote: “You guys have done an awesome job. You should be very proud.” And a third added: “Lovely job. You have turned your house into a lovely home.”

In the UK, tenants in council homes are generally allowed to decorate their homes, but there are some important considerations and potential restrictions.

While tenants usually have the freedom to paint and make minor changes to the interior decor, it’s often advisable to seek permission from the council or housing association for any significant alterations. This might include changing flooring, installing new fixtures, or making structural changes.

For bigger changes – such as to the structure or exterior of the property – you should always check your tenancy agreement and contact your council or housing provider for permission first.
