Revive the sparkle of your kitchen appliances with this simple trick.

Chrome and stainless steel appliances, such as fridges, ovens, or dishwashers, may look fabulous when new, but they can quickly become dull and lacklustre. The sleek metal surfaces are magnets for dust, dirt, and especially fingerprints, which seem to cling stubbornly if there’s even a trace of oil or grime on your hands.

However, don’t despair if your shiny appliances have lost their lustre; there’s a straightforward solution to bring back their original shine. You’ll likely find this everyday cooking item in your kitchen cupboard.

The cleaning tip went viral on Reddit after a user sought advice for sprucing up their stainless steel fridge. The user claimed they tried cleaning it before, but believed they had used the wrong products.

They wrote: “I moved into an apartment about six months ago and have cleaned my fridge before, but now I’m nervous I used the wrong cleaning solution or something. And the magnets left marks. It’s clean, but it looks and feels dull. Help!”

Reddit’s community of cleaning enthusiasts was quick to respond, with one particularly effective suggestion involving nothing more than olive oil, a staple in most kitchens.

One commenter recommended: “Olive oil. Just a little on a paper towel.” Another concurred, saying: “Came here to say this. Give it a try.”

Another favoured trick is to use baby oil. A person claiming “10 years of cleaning experience” suggests buffing the fridge with baby oil on a paper towel to restore its shine.

Someone else commented: “Second this. I install/repair intercoms, which are 90% stainless steel. Baby oil and a fine cloth with the grain. If it’s particularly bad – baby oil and a fine wool/wire pad, once again with the grain.”
