Rangers legend Kris Boyd admits he isn’t too keen to see Aberdeen extend their incredible start to the campaign for the long term – because it would push his former side further down the table.

New Dons boss Jimmy Thelin has started life in the Granite City with a remarkable 13 wins on the bounce, which sees his new side currently sitting joint-top of the Premiership with holders Celtic – and a whopping eight points ahead of Philippe Clement‘s Gers. Aberdeen’s next league clash is a mouthwatering trip to Celtic Park on October 19, but Boyd insists he doesn’t want to see Thelin and co make it to win number 14.

Speaking via Sky Sports News, when asked if he’d be hoping Aberdeen could keep up their dazzling form, Boyd simply replied: “No. Obviously then my team would be further down the league! I think for Aberdeen, it’s great for Scottish football, we always speak about the big five as such, Celtic, Aberdeen, Rangers, Hibs and Hearts, the two Edinburgh ones are way off it right now.

“Jimmy Thelin since he’s come in, we spoke about Steven Naismith a few weeks ago regarding poor performances that Hearts were putting in and that had continued from last season. When you look at Aberdeen, under Peter Leven last year, there was a good end to the season, they finished strong and were able to come back with a smile on their face with a new manager.

Aberdeen’s Graeme Shinnie (L) and Ester Sokler celebrate

“They’ve definitely kicked-on from there. You look at the start they’ve had, it’s been excellent. It’s going to be a difficult game next weekend for Aberdeen at Celtic Park but you look at where they were to where they are now and it’s night and day.
They will continue to win games of football. They defend well and they’ve got threats at the top end of the pitch. Kevin Nisbet has just been called back into the Scotland squad as well so that shows you the form that he’s been in since he’s arrived back in Scotland.
Right now, everything seems to be going well for Jimmy Thelin and I’d love to say long may it continue – but I’d be lying!”
